IUCN REDLIST status
These forest birds live in the tree canopy, close to lakes and along rivers. They nest in cavities in the trunks of very tall trees.
Blue-and-yellow Macaws mate for life. It is easy to identify couples, which sit up close against each other on a single branch in the middle of bird colonies.
Macaws produce short tuneless sounds. They are highly intelligent and able to repeat words.
