                IUCN REDLIST status

The powerful back limbs of the Red Kangaroo allow it to reach peak speeds of almost 65km/h and to jump up to 9m in the air.

The young are born about 33 days after fertilisation. Hairless and weighing less than 1g, the newborns look like worms but are still able to make their way through their mother’s fur to get to the marsupial pouch, where they latch onto a teat and remain there for the next 70 days. They leave the pouch at the age of 7–8 months but continue breastfeeding until they are about a year old.
