Boas are ovoviviparous: females incubate 20–50 eggs inside their bodies and give birth to fully formed young.

Unlike other members of the Boidae family, Central American Boas do not have thermo-sensitive pits, but they can recognize warm-blooded prey thanks to the infrared-sensitive scales on the lips under their nostrils.

Tree-dwelling and nocturnal, Central American Boas bite their prey before squeezing them to death.
