Recognisable from the ruff of white fur around their neck, L’Hoest’s Monkeys store their food in their jowls as they move around.

They live in groups of about 15 with one dominant male and several females with their young. They very often move about on the ground, and unlike many other primates, run away from their predators, which include crowned eagles.

The species is ranked as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to the destruction of its habitat (through the growth in farming) and because they are are hunted for their meat.
