Founded in 2005, Awely is an organisation developing conservation strategies for endangered species in Asia and Africa.
It finances two kind of program. The Red Caps work on resolving conflicts between humans and animals, while the Green Caps focus on the protection of iconic endangered species by developing micro development projects and education campaigns. All Red Caps and Green Caps come from local communities and work closely with local people.
Both models have two basic levels: research work enabling evaluation of the cause and extent of the problems, then the implementation of solutions. The overall aim of the association is to contribute to the sustainable development of local populations by suggesting alternatives to the over-exploitation of natural resources, especially those that impact on wildlife.
The Zoo de La Palmyre has been a member of the Awely Alliance since 2010.
